Hello,

This is a 3-5 min survey covering two topics, Dynamic Browse and Instant Recovery – powering up a virtual machine from your backups.
Dynamic browse will allow you to restore granular data without having to first catalog the backup and without impacting the backup window. Better performance enabling you to meet your recovery point objectives.

Instant Recovery enabling you to direct, power up, and manage a Virtual Machine from your latest backup.

Click here for the survey link

We’d like to thank you and the many customers & partners who’ve showed interest and even participated in our new approach to delivering quarterly releases using the Agile methodology.  During these bi-weekly 30 minute discussions have an open dialogue on a specific topic, and we often share the workflow and UI progress based on your feedback.

For those already participating we thank you.  Your participation has been of great value and we have received so many positive comments.

Continuing on, we are opening up the program and accepting additional participation and that is why you are receiving this invitation to help make a difference.  Our goal is to solve customers top problems and make your life easier allowing you to focus on higher priority items and not managing your backups.

If you are interested in participating in our 30-min bi weekly discussions and provide feedback please let us know via the survey.

Thank you for your time.

Hi all!

Does anybody know how AIR transfer images from one to another NBU domain? I mean, which protocol/application transfer data between NBU domains? and if the data transferred is compressed or encripted?

Thanks!!

I am looking for instructions to seperate the CLIENT1/CLIENT2.tar.gz into smaller individual OS so that we wouldn't need to copy over the whole tarball to each remote server.

Thank you!

Oracle DB discovery - duplicate instances in admin console

I recently have started to investigate OIP for our Oracle backups.  One of my hosts was configured with a FQDN in its bp.conf, which was not standard in our environment.  So I modified the bp.conf so "CLIENT_NAME" is no longer fully qualified.

Issue now is that I'm getting duplicate entries in my "All Instances" list for the host - one set for the non-qualified hostname and another for the FQDN.

Question is - how do I get rid of the duplicate set?  I've deleted the instances, but they come back.  I've restarted NBU services on the client.  I've tried clearing the host cache.

None of these have worked - the duplicate instances continue to show up.

OIP experts?  Any ideas?

I've read the article on setting up the cloud connector in BE15, but it doesn't really have many details, and the help doesn't show it either...

What are the recommended settings for these other fields in the storage settings?

Which file should I backup to keep the NetBackup client service start after I upgrade my KVM

Hi All,

I installed NetBackup client on my RedHatLinux KVM.

During upgrade my KVM, I backed up the files under /usr/openv. But after upgrading my KVM, I found that NetBackup client service is not started.

I have to manually start it by running command "/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bp.start_all".

Does anyone know which file should I backup to keep the NetBackup client service start after I upgrade my KVM??

Regards,

Lacey

Can't continue backup from full tape to another tape in one media set

Hi All,

I got some issues with the Backup exec 2014:

1. When the job backup to the tape and then the tape is fulled, but the job don't change to another tape in the same media set.

2. If I don't check "Eject the media after the job compleles", the job won't write to correct media set and will change to the "associate media" to the media set of the job.

3. What meaning of media overwrite options:

-  Overwrite scratch media before overwriting recylable media contained in the targeted media set.

-  Overwrite recyclable media contained in the targeted media set before overwriting scratch media.

anyone have solutions?

Thanks in adv!!!

I have an environment where I own a MasterServer and MediaServer in version 7.5.0.6 installed on windows servers Server 2008. I am doing the migration to version 7.7. I installed on a WIndows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Virtual server the MasterServer with version 7.7.

What should I do first to perform the migration from version 7.5 to 7.7?

Does NetBackup Support NSS open file backup for Linux?

Good Morning,

We are having some issues determining if NetBackup Supports NSS open files for Linux.

Does the NetBackup know how to back up OES/NSS following the links to the shadow volumes?

Suse Linux Version 10 is being used on the host servers.  There are several cluster nodes and there resources.

We are currently on version 7.6.0.3 on both our master server and client software.  We will begin rolling out 7.7.0.1 within the next few weeks.

I am sorry for this being vague, but I am not sure what other information is needed to make this determination.

Thanks,

Eric

Help with initial SQL database backup

Hi all,

I'm hoping that someone on here can help me. Here's the scenario and the issue I'm facing:

We have multiple SQL servers here in our environment. Each SQL server hosts multiple SQL instances. The main (default) instance on each box is the instance I am dealing with. The main instance on each server has >100 databases of varying sizes. It is common occurance that multiple DBs get created over the course of a day. Problem is, if the DB is created AFTER the BUEXEC full backup runs, the log backups fail (because the DB has never been backed up) until the next full backup of the server runs (every week on Saturday night). This leaves us with a DB in a potentially vulnerable state for up to a week.

I'm wondering if there is a way to automate a full backup of a database upon creation. In other words, can we set a stored procedure in SQL that will create a backup job on our BUEXEC server to backup the newly created database automatically? I'm not really sure how to handle this. SQL creates a .PS1 file that will launch BEMCLI on the backup server and run the job? Any other way to handle this issue?

Thanks in advance for any advice/direction,

-K

How to Cancel Backup Job if the Status is "Ready; No Idle Devices are Available"

In reference to this locked thread: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/how-cancel-backup-job-if-status-readyno-idle-devices-are-available#comment-9228761

I wanted to say that there is a little workaround way to cancel a job that is in the state "Ready; No Idle Devices are Available" without having to put it on hold. If you right click the job -> "Edit" and then under Backup click "Edit", then click "Ok" and "Ok" (notice you don't have to actually edit anything), the job will reload and cancel the pending backup, going back to the "Scheduled" state if you have it on a schedule. Please note this action will also reload any other scheduled backups under the same job, so if you have Daily/Weekly/Monthlies all in the state "Ready; No Idle Devices are Available", they will all be reloaded to "Scheduled".

I needed this workaround because I didn't want the job to remain on hold because I needed it to run as scheduled, and I figure maybe it will be helpful to others.

Hi!

Hallo
