Hello all. I receive the error in this forum post title when attempting to recover an Exchange 2007 mailbox message in Backup Exec 2012 v 14.0 running on a Windows Server 2003 R2 server. The mailbox message in need or recovery is from a January month backup residing on a 1TB eSata external drive (Iomega). I did the following to recover the mailbox message. I connected the January backup drive. Logged into the Backup Exec server computer. Launched the restore "wizard" in backup exec on our email/exchange server. I selected microsoft exchange, then mailbox message, then the Microsoft exchange user mailbox messages I wanted to restore. After choosing the mailbox messages, I chose the defaults the rest of the way. After the wizard ended, I was taken to the "servers" view in Backup Exec. On our email server "restoring" began with a timer bar that got up to 2 seconds then failed with the message: V-79-57344-4611 - An error occurred creating or accessing the directory X specified for this operation. Ensure that the directory is accessible and can be written to. The System logon account for Backup Exec has full control permission to the "staging" path for the January drive. After receiving the error, I disconnected our January drive then connected Thursday drive (last night's backup that ran successfully), launched the restore process (restoring different mailbox messages) and it resulted in a success. So, I assumed this was because the Thursday drive had already been mounted in Backup Exec since it had finished a successful backup job a few hours before. I then disconnected Thursday and reconnected January. Then I attempted to mount January by doing an Inventory and catalog job (I read that in a backup exec forum here...) and running the restore job but it still failed quickly. Backup Exec forum: can you help me? Where should I go from here? I created a case with Symantec but have yet to hear from them. Thanks!

Restore fails with Error EA390013, copy drive fails also

I'm trying to replace my 160GB drive with a larger 250GB drive.  I'm running version SSR 2011 Desktop 10.0.3.45857 on Win 7 x86 OS.  I have only 2 Recovery points and bothe fail when I install the new drive and boot with the recovery disk of the same version mentioned above.  It appears to be at the very end and "Error EA390013: At end of Something" comes up.  When I scan the disk through anaylize it doesn't have any data restored mainly the Windows default folders, like Windows, Users - but only default and Public. Both rescovery points fail the same way.  There never appeared to be anything wrong with the 160GB drive it is just getting close to full.

So next I reinstalled the original 160GB drive and booted to it with the larger drive also installed.   I ran copy drive but it too fails at 96% with --

"High Priority Error: Error EC8F17B3: Cannot complete copying of  (C:\) drive.
Error EC8F0409: Cannot copy source drive to destination location.
Error EA390013: At end of something. 0xEA390013 (Symantec System Recovery)
 (UMI:V-281-3215-6067)"

What do any of these errors mean?  Too vague.  I just ran Windows error checking on the 160GB drive, it found nothing.

Is this error due to my 160GB source drive or is there something wrong with the new 250GB drive?

Any help is appreciated.

 Hello ,

We recentrly upgraded out Backup Exec 2012 to SP3 both the media server and the agents. After the upgrade we are getting a backup job failed, though data were backed up, with the following log. I read the TECH184002 and in one server there is a san storage attached. But on the other two there isn't. Is there a solution for this?

Vcenter Server to be Physical or Virtual

Hello Members,

I need your suggestions and best practices to decide and suggest my customer for moving the existing Vcentre server to Physical.

Current Infrastructure:

Vcenter server- Windows 2008 Virtual machine

Vcentre Version- 5.0

Netbackup Version- NBU 7.5.0.6

Netbackup VMware Tranport Mode- NBD

Total VM's backing up- Approx 700

Probem facing: I observed backups are running very slow. Backup speed is not more than 5-6 MB/sec when running on full scale on LAN with one policy packing up close to 100 VM's with multiplexing Level Set to 8.

I woul like to know if i'll move the Vcenter server to phsycial will that help me to improve the performance. Or what Symantec Recommends in such cases when Vcentre server can be Physcial or Virtual depand upon the ESXi it is managing and VM's it hold.

If any other suggestion, please feel free to mention.

How to manage backup to disk volumes and pools

We moved our backups to BE2012 recently and it runs more or less smooth.

I am not happy with the way the storage is working right now. Maybe that is cause we didn't configure it from a BE2012 point off view. Therefore this question.

I have a NAS with 16 2TB volumes on it. these Volumes have been presented to BE2012 and are mounted under the same folder. (volumes are RAID-5)

All these disk's are dedicated and only used by BE2012.

Next thing we did was make 4 disk pools each with 4 disks.

The settings for the disk have been set to:

  • Max file size: 50GB
  • low disk space: 5%
  • low disk space - Warning 3%
  • low disk space - Criticial 1%
  • Concurrent write sessions: 1

Still the server tends to write all data to the same disks. Every storagepool has one disk that is filled to the limit and 3 disk that are between 10% and 50% used.

How can I resolve this issue?

Push of SSR 2013 Client Causes Reboot despite removal of Boot command

Apologies if this has been asked umpteenth times previously. I am running Symantec System Recovery 2013 Management Solution on windows 2003 and whenever I push the client install out to the windows 7 client it instigates a reboot of the PC. This is despite my removing the BOOT command from the comandline and setting no action required post install.

It may not be relevant but the PC client had a copy of Symantec System Recovery 2011 installed on it.

Many thanks in advance.

Create a Custom Report Using Specified Dates

$

I have a need to create a custom report using the field selections, "Job Start Time" and "Job End Time" where I capture any jobs for the specified time frame I enter. For instance, I want to use these dates "02/14/2014 12:00:00 PM" as the "Job Start Time" and "02/21/2014 11:59:59 PM" for the "Job End Time." If I run a report, the results I get is as follows: There were no records that met all criteria requested. The alternate method of using "Job Start Time" IN LAST (Look Back) 30 Days garners results with extraneous information that I must weed out. I find the current Backup Exec reporting capability is not at all useful. Being able to run reports based on a specific period based on a date range makes more sense than reports based on hours or number of days.

Hi,

I am being passed over some responsiblitlies regarding backups for a few clients. This is a little confusing to me. I hope you can help me. And any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I have Backup Exec 12.5 on Windows 2008 R2.

I would like to set up one backup job that backs up all Windows shares, I know how to select content within a share. The backup will run Monday thru Friday. Now, here's where I need help. I would like to have a full backup run every 2nd Friday. Every other night it would run Incremental backups. Once the time comes for a full to run, I would like the previous full and its incrementals to be purged/deleted. The full backup will take about 25 hours. How can I do this?

Thanks for looking at this and I appreciate your help in advance!!

Backup as a Service

- Restaurar arquivos individuais (GRT) e alternate restore

Windows Agent and Sysprep

Looking for a way to install the Windows Agent to a machine that will be imaged so that NetBU will pick up the new host name of the machine after it's been renamed.

When we deploy from image, the source machine's host name is retained in NetBU and we have to manually correct it.

B2D Backup sets don't get overwritten after retention time ends

Background:

Running BE2012 1798.1244

OS 2008

We generally backup to disk and retain that information for 1-4 Weeks.  After most B2D jobs complete a duplicate job kicks off and duplicates the data to tape to be retained for 1 or 7 years.

My issue:  My B2D sets are not all being overwritten or delted even after their retention time has ended.  This causes the disk to fill up.

If I try to forcefully delete these expired B2D backup setsfrom the backup sets section of the Administrative console it informs me that "Other backup sets depend on backup set snapshot .." .  These dependent jobs are tape duplicate jobs that expire 1 or 7 years later.

Why do my duplicate Tape jobs depend on the B2D jobs?  Shouldn't they depend on other tape jobs?  If I have a full and incremental on seperate tapes.

Any suggestion would greatly be apreaciatted.

Thanks,

Nima

Can't restore NDMP backups from physical tapes

This seems like a very strange issue.

We have a Quantum DXi8500 which we use as a VTL, this is where all of our primary backups go first.  From there we use SLPs to create physical tapes to keep offsite (via a Quantum i2000).

Basically our issue is we can restore from physical tapes with no issue, but when we try to do it with a NDMP job it fails when we try from physical.  If we restore from virtual it works fine (I am assuming it works fine since the VTL in an NDMP host, but the physical library is not)  Support is being less than helpful blaming our filer, but as I said, virtually we can restore fine, but once we write to tape and try to restore from it it fails.

Just wondering if anyone has run into this before, we've been sending logs to support but getting nowhere it seems.

Hi,

I have an issue where we are backing up from a 2008 r2 media server running backup exec 2012 via iscsi to a NAS. We are trying to backup our servers to the nas. When we run a backup of our exchange server we seem to have a job that runs with type of catalog and that completes at 100% and a byte count of 515Gb and then we also have a job of type backup that runs but fails and shows 0% complete but a byte count of 297Gb. The job istrying to backup a windows 2003 64 bit server running exchamnge 2007 server. The error that is displayed in the job is v-79-57344-34070 - snapshot technology: initialization failure on: Microsoft information store there is also a snapshot technolgu error 0xE0008516, rescources specfified for the snapshot do not have any valid data in them. Check if the files were deleted or renamed.

Firstly can somone explain why we get two jobs a catalog and a backup job and also if anyone has any troubleshooting tips for the error.

Many Thanks

Catalog Backup using more than one tape

Hi there,

Our catalog backups were running fine, and now I find that nebackup is using two tapes for a catalgoue backup.

We are running 7.6.0.1.

The first task writes 500 MB to one tape, than another task kicks off which writes 2 GB to another tape. We are using LTO4 media.  Prior to last week, catalog backups were utilizing one volume.

Can anyone offer any insight into this behaviour?

Thanks

Seth
